The Making of a California Classic
Join us for a night of ceramics and community! We are so excited to host long time CBTB Member Kenny Sing for a Workshop and Artist Talk! Light refreshments will be provided. This event is FREE to the community! Artist Bio: Kenny Sing was born and raised in Visalia, CA where grew up wanting to be an engineer of bridges. After spending two years as a structural engineering student at California Polytechnic State University, he transferred to the Liberal Arts department where he focused advertising design, teaching ceramics on the side. Since graduating from Cal Poly in 2011, awarded Best in Graphic Design and Best in Sculpture upon graduation, graphic design remains his primary occupation in San Francisco, CA, where he is also extremely dedicated to his art of ceramics at Clay By the Bay SF Pottery School. Artist Statement: My work elevates and marries the art of graphic design, animation, and architecture by means of clay. From a family of artists, engineers, and masons, I have always appreciated the beauty of structure, the juxtaposition of organic and man-made, and introducing the ancient to the modern. Producing mostly unglazed, pierced and patterned ceramics, the architecture of the work serves as both the primary surface texture as well as an array of light and shadow on its surroundings. Through precision, complexity, and scale, my work invites conversation of technique and craftsmanship, oftentimes making my process my art.
